Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme Get Up to £4,500 Towards Faster Broadband in the South West
Struggling with slow internet at your home, farm, business or community hall in Devon, Cornwall or the wider South West? The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS), run by Building Digital UK (BDUK) on behalf of the UK Government, provides funding of up to £4,500 per premises towards the cost of installing a gigabit-capable broadband connection — and Dragon WiFi is here to help you every step of the way.
Whether you want help navigating the application, need to know if your postcode is eligible, or want a reliable broadband solution installed once your voucher is approved, our local team has you covered.
But you need to be quick. - Applications for the vouchers close on 31st August 2026
What Is the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme?
The GBVS is part of Project Gigabit — the UK Government's flagship £5 billion programme to bring fast, future-proof broadband to the hardest-to-reach parts of the country. The voucher scheme specifically targets homes and businesses in areas where the big commercial providers are not planning to build, and where no government-funded contract is already in place.
The grant covers the installation and infrastructure costs of getting you connected — not your monthly bills — and it represents a significant opportunity for rural Devon, Cornwall and South West communities that have been left behind by the mainstream rollout.
Who Can Apply?
The GBVS is open to:
- Homeowners and residents in rural South West locations with poor broadband speeds
- Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) struggling with slow or unreliable connectivity
- Community organisations including village halls, community centres and sports clubs
To be eligible, your premises must currently receive download speeds of less than 100Mbps, and a gigabit-capable network must not be planned for your area commercially or through an existing government contract. Dragon WiFi will check all of this for you — free of charge.
How Much Funding Is Available?
- Up to £1,500 per eligible residential premises
- Up to £3,500 per eligible small business premises
- Vouchers can be pooled across multiple properties in a group project — significantly increasing the total funding available to your community
- Local top-up funding is available in some areas, potentially increasing the value to more than £7,500 per property
The grant covers installation and equipment costs only. Your ongoing monthly broadband subscription is not funded by the scheme.
The Group Project Rule — This Is Where Dragon WiFi Makes the Difference
A single property cannot apply for a voucher on its own. A minimum of two eligible premises must be included in the same project. In practice, this means coordinating with your neighbours — and that coordination is where many applications stall and never happen.
Dragon WiFi takes all of that off your hands. We:
- Identify other eligible properties near you
- Contact and coordinate neighbours on your behalf
- Build the group project to maximise the combined voucher value
- Submit and manage the application through to approval
You don't have to organise a thing. We do it for you.
What Broadband Technology Does the GBVS Cover?
The scheme funds any gigabit-capable connection — meaning the installed technology must be capable of delivering speeds of up to 1,000Mbps (1Gbps). This includes:
- Full fibre (FTTP) broadband where infrastructure allows
- Fixed wireless gigabit broadband — Dragon WiFi's speciality, and ideal for rural South West terrain
- 4G and 5G broadband where gigabit speeds are achievable
- Other gigabit-capable technologies approved by BDUK
Dragon WiFi specialises in fixed wireless and alternative gigabit solutions — the very technologies that reach the remote farms, hamlets and rural businesses that fibre simply cannot get to.
Act Now — The GBVS Deadline Is 31st August 2026
This is urgent. The Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme application deadline is August 2026, with no plans currently in place to extend or replace it. There are thousands of eligible homes and businesses across Devon and Cornwall that haven't yet applied — many because they don't know who to ask or how to coordinate a group.
Devon County Council has publicly acknowledged there is not enough coordinated effort to get communities moving before the deadline. Dragon WiFi is here to fill that gap.
If you've been waiting for someone to sort this out for you — that someone is us. Call today.
