Public Sector Connectivity & Technology
Public bodies are accountable for connecting the places commercial providers walk away from — rural communities, remote sites and live emergency operations. Dragon WiFi deliver and support connectivity, security and communications for local authorities, Welsh Government and public bodies, transport operators, education and care providers, and the emergency services across Wales and the South West. One accountable team, from survey to ongoing support.
The Challenges Facing
Public Sector Bodies
Challenge 1
Connecting the places no one else will
Commercial providers build where it pays. That leaves councils, government bodies and rural communities responsible for the premises the market and even the Universal Service Obligation leave behind — the genuine not-spots where standard solutions simply do not reach.
Challenge 2
Public money, procurement and accountability
Public spending has to be justified, audited and demonstrably good value. Single-purpose suppliers and call-centre support models make that harder, not easier — every fault becomes a question of whose responsibility it is.
Challenge 3
Continuity that cannot fail
Connectivity for a care home, a school or an emergency operation is not a convenience. When it fails there are consequences. Public bodies need resilience designed in, and support from people who answer the phone - not a ticket queue.
Public Sector Technology Delivered and Supported by One Accountable Team
Dragon WiFi work with public sector bodies across Wales and the South West — local authorities, Welsh Government and public bodies, transport operators, schools and colleges, care providers and the emergency services. We assess what is genuinely possible at each location, recommend the right solution rather than the easiest one to sell, and then install, configure and support it directly.
Because we deliver the broadband, the WiFi, the mobile coverage, the CCTV and the telephony ourselves — and support them with our own engineers — there is one team accountable for the whole system. For a public body answerable for how it spends and how reliably it operates, that single point of accountability matters as much as the technology.
Our public sector work spans rural mobile-coverage installations, onboard connectivity for Welsh public transport, and dedicated communications for the emergency services through our SARcom division. We are a named partner in the Welsh Government-backed StarBws project, bringing satellite and 4G WiFi to rural bus routes, and have delivered onboard connectivity for Transport for Wales. We are as comfortable connecting a remote community left behind by every commercial provider as we are equipping a search-and-rescue team for a coastal incident.

Our recent StarBws project in Wales showed how we can use technology to provide connectivity on truly remote public transport services.

What Public Sector Bodies Get With Dragon WiFi
Connecting Genuine Not-Spots
We specialise in the locations commercial providers and the USO leave behind. We install WaveMobile small-cell technology — the same technology used in the DSIT-backed 5G DRIVE programme that brought coverage to 21 Welsh tourist not-spots for the first time — bringing usable mobile signal, including 999 access, where there was none.
Emergency-Grade Resilience
Compliance-Aware Systems
Our CCTV and recording solutions are specified with safeguarding, retention periods and audit requirements in mind — including CQC-aware audit trails for care settings and access logs for controlled environments.
Direct, Local Support
Local engineers across Wales, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. When you call, you reach our office and our team - not a national helpdesk queue.
Most issues are resolved remotely before they affect operations.
